1. What are the new rules regarding Overseas Citizens of India?

The Government of India has merged the Person of Indian Origin (“PIO”) and Overseas Citizens of India (“OCI”) programs.

2. How long is the OCI status valid for?

OCI status is valid for the holder’s lifetime.

3. What does OCI let me do?

Allows for multiple entries into India for an indefinite length of stay, provides for work authorization, and exempts the holder from local police (FRRO) registration requirements. An OCI cardholder does not have the right to vote, hold constitutional post in India or hold Government posts in India.
