Lata has practiced law in Papua New Guinea (PNG) since 1984 and became a naturalised citizen of PNG in 1996. Prior to moving to PNG, she practiced law in New Zealand and Australia and has lived and worked in the USA. An immigrant herself, she moved from India to New Zealand to PNG. Lata is a Senior Commercial Lawyer and currently heads the commercial division of Twivey Lawyers. Lata has over 36 years’ experience in commercial, business, and immigration law. All visitors or expatriate residents of PNG need some form of entry visa and work permit to reside in PNG. Lata has extensive experience with entry visas and work permits including working resident visas, dependent visas, business visas, employment visas, investor visas, bridging visas, entertainer visas, visitor visas, aid worker visas, volunteer visas, medical visas, religious worker visas, and refugees as well as citizenship, dual citizenship and permanent residency applications. Lata also specialises in commercial corporate law and is conversant with the setting up of businesses in PNG. She has an extensive network of contacts both in the private sector and in government departments. Her client base extends to Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Africa, Israel, England, Fiji, Solomon Islands, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Lata is well known by her clients for taking care of their needs with integrity and in a fast efficient and cost effective manner. Lata is currently the President of the PNG-India Business Council. She was awarded an MBE by her Majesty the Queen in 2014 for services to the Legal Profession and Charity.
