1. Who is eligible for the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa?

You are eligible if you are:

  • An international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution with an eligible qualification or with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL); and
  • Younger then 50 years of age; and
  • In Australia both at the time of application and time of decision; and
  • Hold an eligible visa; and
  • Have at least competent English; and
  • Meet the 2 year Australian student requirement.

2. What does this visa allow you to do?

  • Study

3. What if I have the ‘no further stay’ condition attached to my current visa?

In the event you have the ‘no further stay’ condition attached to your current visa, you should apply for the visa using the paper form (Form 1409). This form includes an application to have this condition waived.

4. What are the two streams of the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa?

(1) Graduate Work Stream & (2) Post-Study Work stream.

5. What is the Graduate Work Stream?

The Graduate Work Stream is suitable for international students with an eligible qualification who graduate with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

7. How long is the Graduate Work Stream visa valid for?

Under this stream, the visa is valid for 18 months from the date of grant.

8. What is the Post-Study Work Stream?

The Post-Study Work Stream is suitable for international students who graduate with a higher education degree from an Australian education provider, regardless of their field of study.

9. Who is eligible for the Post-Study Work Stream?

If your first Australian student visa was applied for and granted on or after the 5th of November 2011, you are eligible.

10. How long is the Post-Study Work Stream visa valid for?

A visa in this stream can be granted for up to four years from the date the visa is granted, depending on the visa applicant’s qualification.
